Help for Taking Better Care of Yourself

?????????????????????????????I’m sure that everyone would agree with me that taking care of yourself is vitally important. That being said there are a few different areas in which we need to take care of ourself.

The first is to take care of our physical self. Exercise is such an important piece of a healthy and balanced life. It doesn’t have to be anything big either. There’s so many different options that you can do to get in shape. I prefer going to the gym and hoping on a piece of cardio equipment or hitting up a spin class. There’s also weightlifting if you are into that, or dance classes. Some people don’t exercise because they don’t have time. It is so important to make the time. Also, don’t think you have to go to the gym in order to exercise. There’s plenty you can do at home. Run up and down your stairs, get a jump rope, do lunges, or go outside for a walk, jog or run. I know for me personally that exercise is a very important piece of my day. It is my stress relief more than anything. After my day at work, I head to the gym to let everything go and get those endorphins flowing. When you feel good about yourself, you are better able to deal effectively with life. I think getting in shape, and maintaining once you get there is so important to taking care of yourself. Also within the physical realm of taking care of yourself is eating properly. Make sure you are getting a proper balance of food groups and eating correct portion sizes.

The second is to take care of our emotional self. If you are anything like me, you are so busy throughout the day that you are constantly stressed out. This does nothing good for my emotional self and I often burn out really quickly because I tend to overdo things. In order to improve our mental self we can do things that’ll positively impact others. Service is a great way to get outside of yourself and help someone else. It is a win-win since you are blessing someone, and you will be blessed for serving. Another great way to take care of your emotional self is to take time for leisure each day. We all get so busy and so wrapped up in our day to day routine that we sometimes don’t rest. Make it a point each day to do something fun and relaxing. Perhaps this includes reading a book, or taking a bubble bath to try and unwind. Another helpful tip is to participate in therapy. It doesn’t have to mean you have a problem, it is just a great way to let out things bottled up within you in a healthy way. Lastly, you’ll want to take care of your spiritual self. Whether or not you practice or follow a set religion, it is still important to take care of yourself spiritually. Take the time to connect to whatever it is that you find important or holy. Adding to your spiritual self can give you a greater sense of meaning and purpose in life which is helpful in taking care of yourself.
