Nezzie Patient Ambulation Device Featured on The Nursing Show

Clifton, NJ – August 3, 2015 – Early and frequent patient ambulation post-surgery has long been tied to improved patient outcomes. The obstacle, however, to ambulating patients is most often related to a lack of staff resources, since safe ambulation may take up to three clinicians to assist the patient and manage equipment. According to an interview on the latest episode of The Nursing Show—a national medical podcast with more than 100,000 viewers—the answer may be a new device from Blickman called Nezzie. The device, designed by a Thoracic surgeon, allows hospitals to achieve early, frequent and safe patient ambulation with the assistance of a single clinician.

According to Blickman Executive Vice President, Nick Marinis, who was interviewed for the segment during the National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition in San Diego, Nezzie improves workflow and provides patients the benefits of frequent ambulation. Those benefits include faster recovery, possibly reducing a patient’s length of stay and lowering the risk of complications and peripheral diseases associated with immobility.

Marinis pointed out the unique design and construction of Nezzie added to patient and staff safety, as well as the durability of the device.

“We are excited to have our story told on The Nursing Show because of its reputation for providing relevant information,” said Marinis. “What a difference it would make if clinicians had access to one piece of equipment parked bedside that would support the patient and that patient’s equipment.”

Podcast host Jamie Davis, himself an RN and EMT, noted the strong positive reaction to Nezzie at the Critical Care Exposition, describing the Blickman booth as being “mobbed” during the event.
